Gents’ bicycle Famos, 1940

Made in Metal Factory of Otto Saar in Tallinn, Estonia, in 1940. Frame no 8031. illustratsioon

Special feature of this bike is the spring fork – the top of the fork has a joint and springs that respond to pressure. Fork (like many other details) was probably imported from Germany. The bike has black frame and nickeled rims/mudguards with wide blue stripe in the middle (sided by white narrow stripes), which is characteristic of the produce of Saar factory. Most likely, due to the difficult times after the war, it uses Novo rear freewheel hub instead of Torpedo.

The bike is virtually as good as new and unused – it has original paint, galvanic, tyres, and most of small details. Some details were replaced during minor restoration in 2012.
